PUMPKINS STORY
Brixies’s Rescue received an urgent call from their partner shelter, A Second Chance Animal Shelter on Manning Street. A litter of puppies had been found alongside their mother, Pavo, who had tragically passed away while desperately trying to protect her babies. Most of the litter did not survive — but one tiny fighter did. Fragile, cold, and barely holding on, this little pup was affectionately named Poundcake by the shelter team.
The moment Brixies’s Rescue learned about Poundcake, they didn’t hesitate. They tagged her and arranged transport from South Carolina, determined to give her a chance at life that her siblings never got. What no one knew yet was that this brave little puppy was about to change someone’s world.
Back in New York, two loving and experienced fosters — Tyler and Wanda Ella — stepped up the second they heard about Poundcake after they saw her foster could no longer foster after her being in care for 3months They had fostered with Brixies before and were known for their incredible devotion, especially to animals with special medical or emotional needs. The second they met her, Poundcake curled into their arms like she had been waiting for them all along.
It was impossible not to notice: Poundcake’s coat was the exact same color as Tyler and Wendla beloved senior dog who had passed away not long before due to age and medical complications. It didn’t feel like a replacement — it felt like a gentle reminder that love can come back into your life in the softest, most unexpected ways.
As days turned into a week, Poundcake began to thrive. She learned how to play, nap in sunbeams, and trust the kind hands that fed and held her. Tyler and Wanda began calling her Pumpkin, a sweet nickname that suited her warm, gentle spirit and bright eyes. Soon, everyone at Brixies’s Rescue agreed with Wendla that Pumpkin had found her family and Pumpkin was Tyler’s & Wendla Soul Dog
Pumpkin didn’t take the place of their previous fur baby. Instead, she created a new chapter — one filled with hope, healing, and the belief that happy endings sometimes begin with heartbreak. Her story reminds all of us why rescues do what they do: because sometimes a little life just needs a second chance, a loving hand, and a family willing to say yes.
Lexi & Gracie’s Story
Gracie’s journey began in Texas, where her entire litter was at risk of being euthanized. Around the same time, Lexi was found as a stray in South Carolina. Thanks to Brixie’s Rescue, funds were raised to save both dogs and give them a second chance at life.
Their forever family opened their hearts and home to these two amazing girls. Gracie brought joy and love into their lives until her sudden passing in 2025. Though her time was far too short, she filled every day with happiness and left behind beautiful memories. Not long after, Lexi came into their lives—helping heal their hearts and continuing the love Gracie started.
“I was lucky enough to adopt two of my puppies from Brixie’s—Gracie and Lexi. The rescue made the process easy yet thorough, with quick communication and constant support. They were there every step of the way, not just during the adoption but even afterward. Because of them, we have two dogs who have truly changed our lives for the better.”
Gracie and Lexi’s story reminds us how every act of rescue ripples into countless moments of love, healing, and hope. ❤️
